History
Spencer Pride, Inc. has been holding an LGBTQ+ History Month event for 8 years. It started with a documentary film held at Cornerstone Hall of the Spencer Presbyterian Church. We had an educational display in the Spencer library. That first film was attended by 75 people some of whom turned out to be protesters. The protesters watched the film and then tried to convert us. We’ve come a long way.
This is our 5th annual “A Night at the Tivoli” event. We have held our annual LGBTQ+ History Month film screening at the beautiful downtown Tivoli Theater since it reopened. We offer an admission free film screening which is attended by over 150 people! We also include an educational element in the evening as well as a raffle fundraiser.
This year’s film is “The Rocky Horror Picture Show.” It’ll be the original film. We are encouraging costumes this year & we will even be hosting our own costume contest that evening! Keep in mind that TRHPS is an “R” rated film (language, adult humor). Props will be available for sale in the theatre for just $5. No external props are permitted.
In addition to “A Night at the Tivoli,” we create educational displays each year for distribution at areas libraries and schools about LGBTQ+ issues & history. This year’s displays are being developed by our Iris Youth Group. Availability of our educational displays has expanded tremendously. This year our displays will be set up in over 20 area libraries and schools from Linton to Brown County to Greencastle to Martinsville.

To give yourself an edge, visit one of our educational displays at your local library or come early on October 11th and check out the one on display at the Tivoli. Volunteers of Spencer Pride will be hosting a trivia game for the entire audience with fun prizes.
