Spencer Pride

Spring Cleanup at the Owen County Public Library (My Voice, by Eric Jones)

OCPL VolunteeringEarlier today, Spencer Pride continued its march toward its 10-year anniversary with our February community service event – Clean up at the Owen County Public Library. The Library will be undergoing an exciting transformation very soon, and the wonderful staff needed help clearing out the attic and basement.

We helped by gathering and moving boxes, lockers, metal bookshelves, and more. It was a beautiful day, but hard work nonetheless. We are very grateful to our wonderful volunteers who are so actively engaged in doing good in our community, and equally grateful for our amazing community partners that make the world a better place.

Thanks again to Owen County Public Library for letting us help!

On February 29, the Spencer Evening World published a thank-you letter from the library.  It read as follows:

“The staff of the Owen County Public Library would like to thank the volunteers of Spencer Pride for all of their help on Saturday, February 20. As the library gets closer to the beginning of construction there are many organizational and cleanup projects going on. We were very fortunate to have beautiful weather that day, allowing us to get many things accomplished. The attic space in the library is being cleaned out completely. With Spencer Pride’s help we were able to move a large amount of metal shelving from there out to our bookmobile garage across the street. Staff lockers were disassembled and moved to the garage and approximately seventy boxes of library records were moved to the basement for permanent storage.

It was a fun and productive day thanks to all the help from the all ages group of volunteers from Spencer Pride. We could not have done it so quickly and easily without you.”
