Thank you for visiting our website.  Here, you can find information about our organization (who we are, what we do, & how we operate), our activities & events, & much more.  You can also find out how you can get involved to help us achieve our mission of making Indiana a more welcoming place for ALL people.

Spencer Pride, Inc. is focused on educating the public about rural lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, & queer (LGBTQ+) people & issues in order to make Indiana a safer & more welcoming place.

We provide a voice for the LGBTQ+ community to help foster an environment where there is no disparagement in opportunity simply because of one’s gender expression, sexual orientation, or related perceptions of the same.

We welcome everyone to join us as we continue to cultivate a community of compassion & celebration for all people.   We are entirely volunteer-run & are always on the look out for passionate people who wish to help us achieve our mission.

In September of 2016, Spencer Pride opened an LGBTQ+ center in downtown Spencer.  With this opening, Spencer became the smallest town in America with such a resource.  The Spencer Pride commUnity center offer a variety of services to the local community and serves as the made headquarters for Spencer Pride, Inc.  The commUnity center includes Unity, our retail shop.  Unity is open Thursdays through Saturdays from 10 AM until 7 PM.

In addition to operating the Spencer Pride commUnity center, we have two annual events each year and also host a variety of other educational events & services.

  • The Spencer Pride Festival is an admission-free rural LGBTQ+ pride festival that takes place on the courthouse square in downtown Spencer, Indiana.   The Spencer Pride Festival is the largest rural LGBTQ+ pride event in Indiana.  Spencer is the smallest town with such a large LGBTQ+ pride event in the Midwest!  The Spencer Pride Festival takes place on the first Saturday in June each year.  The Spencer Pride Festival is known for its family-friendly and inclusive atmosphere, all in a small town setting.
  • A Night at the Tivoli is the main event of LGBT History Month.  It is held on the second Wednesday in October at the beautiful historic Tivoli Theatre.  This event features a film, educational activities, and a reception for generous donors who make the informative & entertaining evening possible.

From Putnam County Pride Initiative:

The Putnam Pride Initiative, a newly formed group of LGBTQ+ people and allies, will enjoy a picnic at Robe Ann Park on Saturday, June 24, from 5-7pm. Look for the rainbow flags at shelter house #5 next to the Emerald Palace playground. Everyone who supports equal rights and treatment for the LGBTQ+ community is welcome and encouraged to attend. Bring a dish to share with others, and get to know this community of people and the activities they are working toward. There will be a craft table, ladder golf, and cornhole for kids of all ages. Bring your pets and kids for a fun night of food and friends. The picnic will be held rain or shine. For more information, email contact@putnamprideinitiative.org.

Many of the volunteers from Spencer Pride will be attending to support our fellow rural pride organization. We'd love to see you there as well!
