The 2023 Spencer Pride Festival is rapidly approaching, and we are looking forward to welcoming you to our town in just a few short weeks! There will be so many fun activities to take part in; however, it’s not just all fun and games. At Spencer Pride, we also want to provide you with the opportunity to take care of your Health & Wellness needs. At this year’s Pride Festival, you can take advantage of HIV testing services, vaccine clinic services, a low sensory space, and a private lactation station all for FREE! We also have a dedicated parking area for individuals with disabilities.
Our HIV testing services are provided by IU Health Positive Link. All tests done at the festival are rapid tests which means you will also walk away from this service with your results. You can find this opportunity on the second floor of the Spencer Pride commUnity center in the new Health & Wellness Office from 1pm to 4pm.
This year’s vaccine clinic is hosted by Indiana Immunization Coalition (IIC). This will be IIC’s third year at the Spencer Pride Festival. The vaccines available include tetanus, hepatitis, pneumococcal, shingles, flu, and covid for adults. IIC will also be offering all childhood vaccines. You can register for the vaccine clinic at https://patients.vaxcare.com/registration by using the enrollment code IN65942 then selecting Spencer Pride Festival-10/7. Registration is NOT required for this service, and all walk-ins are welcome. You will be able to find this service on the second floor of the Spencer Pride commUnity center in the Golden Discovery Ballroom from 12pm to 4pm.
The Low Sensory Space is being hosted at the Owen County Community Foundation for the second year in a row. This space is for individuals who experience sensory overload or just need a quiet, calm space to relax for a while during the hustle and bustle of festival activities. There will be two sensory tables, one with moon sand and the other with raw rice and beans with scoops and shovels available. There will also be a variety of fidget toys available in the Low Sensory Space as well, but please make sure to return the toys before leaving the area.
The Lactation Station is for mothers currently nursing and will be hosted in the Historic Tivoli Theater’s Green Room on the second floor throughout the entirety of the festival. Nursing mothers are NOT required to use this space and may breast feed or pump wherever they would like; however, this space is being made available for those who would be more comfortable breast feeding or pumping in a private space.
Parking for individuals with disabilities will be available on the south side of the courthouse square, staffed by a Spencer Pride volunteer. Individuals interested in using this area should pull up on Market Street between Washington and Main Streets at any available spot and wait for the attendant.
We hope you will come out for all of the festivities on October 7 and that you will also take advantage of these important services!
Peace & Love,
Spencer Pride Festival Leadership Council
